Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Township was able to complete a Bear Hazard Assessment.

A Bear Wise Community Hazard Assessment is the first step for a community in taking a proactive approach to reducing human-bear conflicts. The goal of the program is to focus efforts on addressing the root causes of human-bear conflicts, to reduce the number of conflicts and, ultimately, to reduce the number of bears that must be relocated or destroyed.

If you are experiencing a problem with bears, please call the Ministry of Natural Resources' Bear Reporting Hotline at  1-866-514-2327.

Northern Home Repair Program

There is grant money available for low income families to make structural, electrical, plumbing heating, water, septic and accessibility repairs to their homes.  If you believe you may fall into a low income bracket, have less than $20,000 in assets (excluding your house, vehicle and RRSPs), you may qualify for a forgivable loan up to $20,000.  The loan does not ever need to be paid back unless you sell your home within a 20 year time period.  The forgivable loan stays with the home even if the owner becomes deceased and wills it to a family member who does not sell the house.  The balance of the loan, however, must be paid back if the house is ever sold within the 20 year time frame.  For further information and an application package, please call Lenore at the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Department at 766-2111, ext. 4070.  Don't let this opportunity pass you by!   Even if you are not sure that you may qualify, please call for an application package.
